Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance or super bills?

I do not bill insurance companies directly, but I do have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number and can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. A superbill is an itemized receipt that includes the diagnostic and procedural codes your insurance company may require to process an out-of-network claim. Depending on your plan, you may be eligible for partial or full reimbursement for lactation counseling services. When I obtain my IBCLC credential, both private and state-provided insurance reimbursements will be accepted.

To determine your eligibility for reimbursement:
1. Contact your insurance company before your appointment to ask whether out-of-network lactation counseling services are covered.
2. Ask about any coverage requirements, reimbursement rates, deductibles, and whether a referral or prior authorization is needed.
3. After your appointment, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company according to their claims process.
4. Your insurance company will review the claim and determine whether reimbursement is available based on your individual plan.

Disclaimer: Please note that having an NPI number and receiving a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement amounts vary by insurance provider and plan. Lactation counseling is provided as an out-of-network service. While a superbill provides the standard diagnostic and procedural coding required for claims submission, reimbursement policies vary widely by insurer.

Do you offer a sliding scale or payment options?

Yes! I believe every family deserves access to compassionate and supportive prenatal, lactation, and postpartum care, regardless of their financial circumstances. I offer flexible payment plans and a sliding scale for qualifying lower-income families to help make services more accessible.

I also reserve a limited number of no-cost community care appointments each year, offered on a case-by-case basis to families experiencing financial hardship. If cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to discuss the options available and work with you to find an approach that best fits your family’s needs.

What are your credentials and experience?

I am a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Breastfeeding Counselor (CBC) with advanced lactation studies through the International Doula Institute, and am currently pursuing my International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential. I am also a Certified Childbirth Educator (CCE) and birth doula trained through Birth and Beyond Resources, as well as a DONA-trained Postpartum Doula (PCD(DONA)).

My experience includes supporting laboring mothers through childbirth, helping new moms establish breastfeeding, assisting experienced mothers with relactation, and providing compassionate, individualized care to families throughout the postpartum period.

With my medical background and specialized training in birth, lactation, and postpartum support, I strive to provide families with evidence-informed education, compassionate guidance, and personalized care. My goal is to help every family feel heard, supported, and confident throughout their journey from birth to beyond.

What types of issues can you help with?

I support families through pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period.

I can help with:

  • Pregnancy & Birth Preparation: Childbirth education, birth planning, labor preparation, comfort measures, and emotional support during labor.
  • Breastfeeding & Lactation: Getting started with breastfeeding, latch and positioning, nipple pain, pumping, flange sizing, milk supply concerns, combination feeding, weaning, and relactation support.
  • Postpartum Recovery & Adjustment: Newborn care education, feeding routines, postpartum comfort, emotional encouragement, and navigating the transition into parenthood.
  • Newborn & Family Support: Understanding newborn cues, establishing realistic routines, building parental confidence, and adjusting to life with a new baby.
  • Individualized Education & Guidance: Helping parents understand their options, work through challenges, and make informed decisions that align with their family’s needs and goals.

My approach is centered on meeting each family where they are, without judgment or pressure. Whether you’re preparing for your first baby, welcoming another little one, navigating unexpected feeding challenges, or simply needing an extra set of hands and a listening ear, I’m here to offer compassionate, personalized, evidence-informed support.

My services provide education, doula support, and non-diagnostic lactation counseling. Medical concerns are referred to the appropriate healthcare professional when needed.

Where do consultations take place?

Most appointments take place in the comfort of your own home, where you and your family can receive personalized support in a familiar, relaxed environment. Virtual appointments are also available for families who prefer online support or are located outside my local service area.

I’m also excited to begin offering live online group classes soon, creating more opportunities for families to learn, connect, and feel supported together.

I hope to establish an in-person clinic in the coming years, but for now, I bring care directly to families or meet virtually, depending on your needs and the type of service you’re looking for.

Can I access your services outside of Washington?

Absolutely! While my in-person services are currently only available locally in the Eastern Washington (Spokane) area, my virtual services allow me to support families wherever they are located.

I’m also currently developing self-paced online courses, with live virtual classes and webinars coming soon. Additionally, I’ll be offering digital downloads, educational resources, and handbooks that families can access and purchase from anywhere.

My heart is to make compassionate, evidence-informed birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum education accessible to families wherever they are in their journey. Whether you’re right here in Spokane or across the world, I’d love to connect and help you find the support and resources that best fit your family’s needs!
